Rev. Canon Robert Hurkmans
Rob has been the minister at St. James and St. Brendan since 2006. Rob was raised in Fisherville, Ontario on the family dairy farm. Rob studied at the University of Waterloo (B.Sc) and Queens University (B. Ed) before teaching high-school science for a couple of years in Cambridge, ON. After feeling drawn to ministry Rob attended Wycliffe College (M. Div) and was ordained on May 20, 2004 (diaconate) and December 8, 2004 (priesthood). Rob served two years as assistant curate at St. Luke's Burlington before accepting the position as rector of the newly amalgamated congregation of St. James and St. Brendan in Port Colborne in 2006. Rob is married to Sally and they have four girls. Rob is chaplain to Bishop Michael Bird, and chairs the Innovation / Vision group in Niagara. When he's not busy at church or with his family, Rob enjoys spending time studying (M.A. McMaster, 2012), playing basketball, and chasing chickens on the family's small farm (Jubilee Acres). Linda has been the musician and choir director at St. James and St. Brendan since 2004. Linda brings a wide spectrum of musical abilities to her ministry at the church. Besides conducting our choir and leading our church worship, Linda teaches students at the Ontario Conservatory of Music. More recently Linda founded the "Rio Trio", a musical ensemble that play several nights a week in Niagara Falls.
