St. Francis was a 12th century rebel and reformer, and more and more churches are remembering and celebrating St. Francis of Assisi on October 4th every year. Why is it that this 800 year old Saint is reappearing in church calendars these days. The answer isn't surprising. The challenges Francis faced in his day aren't all that different from our own time: with religious wars, and increasing gap between rich and poor, St. Francis lived in a time not unlike ours. The current Pope, inspired by St. Francis, took is taking his name and his mission into our contemporary world. Perhaps we too need to be inspired by this ancient man of God in our own lives today.
