In the catacombs of Rome you will find early Christian artwork depicting Jesus as a shepherd. For these first Christians the image of Jesus as a good shepherd was a source of strength and consolation. Today this image is still powerful and comforting. Many of us, like sheep, find ourselves lost or in danger, we've wandered and we need help and protection. We need a shepherd! This Sunday we contemplate Jesus' famous (and meaningful word): I Am the Good Shepherd.
