Joe Carter hit one of the greatest home-runs in all of major league history. But centuries earlier, Peter hit an even greater home run: he was the first one to put his finger on who Jesus really was. When everyone else was striking out, Peter hit it out of the park! "You are the messiah" (Matthew 16:16). However, the greatest home run ever was follow up by the greatest strikeout ever. While Peter properly identified Jesus as the long hoped for messiah, he drastically misunderstood the mission of Jesus. He, like many of us, did not understand the central role of suffering in God's plan to rescue his people. |
