Anthem: "Beloved, Let Us Love One Another"
Children's Song: "A Good Friend"
What do our friendships have to do with our spiritual life? For many of us, there is very little connection between the company we keep, and the faith we profess. Yet, this Lent as we seek to develop a spiritual "Rule of Life" for ourselves soon discover that the friends we keep determine the course and direction of our lives. As Proverbs 13:20 states: "Those who walk with the wise become wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm." If this is true, then choosing "wise" friends is a vital part of my spiritual life. But what qualities should I look for in a friend, and where would I ever find a friend that could help me become "wise"? These are the questions we explore this morning at St. J & B. What we discover is that church is best understood as a community of friends, journeying together on the path of Christ. May St. J & B become such a place: not just a "friendly" church, but a church of friends!
