"BE RICH in good works and give generously to those in need." 1 Timothy 6:18
We're supporting: 1 REFUGEE FAMILY
We raised: $33,725
We raised it in: 4 Weeks
"If you lend to those
from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend
to sinners in order to receive back the same amount. But love your
enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward
will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High.” Matthew 6:34-35
Dear friends,
I am writing this letter to thank you for making our Refugee Sponsorship Campaign a resounding success. About three months ago I challenged our congregation to radically demonstrate the sacrificial, self-giving love that Jesus calls us to in Matthew 6. I challenged you to raise $25,000 during the month of May in order that we might sponsor the resettlement of a Syrian refugee family to our community.
Many of us (myself included) might have worried that this goal was too ambitious for a church like ours. Yet, as the donations began to come in, there was a palpable sense that the Holy Spirit was doing something amazing in our midst. It gave me chills to announce on the last Sunday of May that our grand total was $33,725 – nearly nine thousand dollars more than our goal. Thank you, and thanks be to God!
Our diocesan newspaper as well as the Anglican Journal will be publishing stories about this accomplishment. However, the journey has just begun! We are now taking the next steps toward our goal. We are filing a formal application to be a sponsoring community and diving deeper into the logistical process of identifying a refugee family starting the settlement process. Special thanks to Donna Kalailieff for volunteering to be our committee chairperson. Please keep her and our team in your prayers.
Three Notes:
1. This fall we will be forming a committee of volunteers to help facilitate the sponsorship/resettlement process. If you are interested in being part of this team, please let Donna know ASAP. You can reach her through our office here:
2. We will be offering some workshops this fall to educate our parish about the details and complexities of refugee sponsorship.
3.
Please continue to pray that God will see this process through to its joyous completion.
It is a privilege to serve such a bold, Spirit-filled community like St. J & B. Blessing to you this summer!
Yours in Christ,
